For the record, I can get kind of neurotic over language. That is, I find it abhorrent to ignore an error simply because it is commonly made. The use of the term “Indian” in referring to indigenous Americans, for example, renders me incensed. Though today’s object of my linguistic rage isn’t quite so socially charged, it annoys me even more.

< > – loosely, carets
All “brackets” are the “square” kind. Please stop specifying that. Thanks.
